Toronto rings in New Year with fights, stabbings, shooting

TORONTO - It was a violent start to the New Year in Toronto with at least a half dozen serious assaults. Toronto Police say one man is in critical condition after a fight in the Queen and Bathurst Sts. area around 12:35 a.m. (Toronto Sun)

At least one dead, 15 wounded in Finland stabbing attack

A violent attack at a vocational school complex in Kuopio, eastern Finland, has left at least one person dead and 10 injured, two seriously, according to police. A Finnish police spokesman told CNN that a male suspect, who is one of the injured, is in custody after he used a bladed weapon during the "violent incident." (CNN)

VANCOUVER - An off-duty police officer who was stabbed several times in the stomach while picking up his children outside a Delta elementary school is being called a hero by his police chief. (The Province)

4 teens in custody in stabbing death of boy outside high school

Hamilton police have arrested two more teens in connection with the stabbing death of a student at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School on Monday. The new arrests are of two 16-year-olds, a male and a female, and both are in custody for first-degree murder. They have not yet been charged. Those arrests bring the total number to four, after an 18-year-old and a 14-year-old were arrested and charged with first-degree murder on Monday.(CBC)

    Canadian man stabbed to death in Mexico

    Bruce Allen, 70, of Dartmouth, N.S., was found by his partner in their vacation apartment with multiple stab wounds to his neck and chest, a family member said. Allen was renting an apartment in Progreso, a small beach city near Merida in the Yucatan Peninsula.(CBC)
