A Surrey woman who was badly beaten outside the Newton Arena Sunday night has died.  Julie Paskall, 53, was taken off of life support Tuesday morning. The 19-year-old victim of a seemingly random attack in New Westminster Tuesday night has died from his injuries.  Police found Karim Meskine badly injured and unconscious in the area of 23rd St and 8th Ave at around 7:45pm Dec 17 after a passerby called 911. A body was found near 102 Ave and Park Drive at around 11am under suspicious circumstances. IHIT determined Phillip Oun, 23, was met with foul play Wednesday after an autopsy was completed. He was known to police and involved in criminal activity.  (LM #43)   Dec 18, 2013   Homicide

A man has been found dead inside a home in the 9100-block of 147A St, Surrey.  IHIT says the man was involved in a fight early Saturday morning at what has been determined as a home operating as an after-hours bar. Investigators are looking for a car full of witnesses who fled the scene following the fight. Homicide investigators suspect foul play is involved in the death of a female inmate at a Maple Ridge prison.  Police says 51-year-old April Peregooda was unresponsive when Mounties attended the Alouette Correctional Centre for Women.  Mounties suspect foul play and have arrested a woman in connection to Peregooda's death, but the woman has not been charged.  Nov 22, 2013   Inmate death

The man who died after being shot upwards of 7 times on Marathon Court was associated with gangs.  Joey Lamont Arrance crashed his luxury SUV into a bus stop late Tuesday night after police say he was the victim of a targeted shooting.  He was rushed to hospital but died a short time later from his injuries.      (LM #31)    Aug 27, 2013   Victim had gang ties   Arrance killed   Shooting

Just after midnight the Surrey RCMP were called to a parking lot near the Royal Canadian Legion at 106th Ave and 135A St in Surrey. Robert Paterson, 40, died on the way to hospital.  Information from witnesses at scene lead to the belief this may have been an intentional act to strike the victim with their vehicle including several other persons who were narrowly missed. At approximately 1:00am, RCMP were called to a report of a fight occurring near the intersection of 100th Ave and 154th St.  Police located 2 males suffering from stab wounds. Kyle Xavier Yellowbird, 22, succumbed to his injuries a short time later in hospital.  Involved in the altercation is the driver of a mid to late 2000 model Honda Civic, silver or grey in colour. Surrey resident The Vinh Nguyen, 17, was stabbed to death during a fight between two groups at Ohukuya Japanese Restaurant in the early morning hours of Aug 16.  The 17-year-old was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.  On Oct 7 officers arrested Chien Khac Le, 28, of Vancouver, a man with no apparent connection to the victim.   (LM #27)   VPD #4   Aug 16, 2013   Charged   Man charged   Stabbing



The family of Andrew Leduc, killed in a hit-and-run incident is questioning why the civilian RCMP contractor involved wasn't arrested, after a final report on the case revealed he washed blood off his truck and stopped for coffee and gas before contacting police 3 hours later.  The truck driver, a civilian expert and consultant that RCMP and other law enforcement agencies use to assist in traffic investigations, did not stop.  Andrew Leduc, a 37-year-old father of 3 young children, was hit and killed on August 7, 2013 by a semi-truck on the Surrey side of the Langley Bypass around 3am while walking in the curb lane.   Aug 7, 2013   Clear of wrongdoing   No charges   Family angered   Twist in hit-and-run death   Driver is RCMP consultant   



Scott Ashley McMillan, 55, was found beaten in his residence in the 13800-block of 64th Ave in Surrey.  He was located on the floor and unresponsive by one of his roommates who then asked a neighbour to call 911.  Mr. McMillan was rushed to the hospital where he remained on life support in critical condition.  On July 10, 2013 just before 4:00pm he was pronounced deceased at the hospital.    (LM #26)   IHIT File# 2013-1546   July 10, 2013   Beaten man dies

Police say the suspect driver in a hit-and-run collision that killed 72-year-old cyclist Edward Simpkins has come forward.  Edward Simpkins was hit by a vehicle on 13th Ave near Wright St at around 8:30pm on June 30. An 80-year-old man has died in hospital after he was allegedly pushed to the ground by a stranger early Friday morning in East Vancouver.  The incident took place after just after 7am near New Brighton Park on McGill St. Investigators say Yee Wong hit his head in the fall and died later in hospital.  Police arrested a 45-year-old man.  May 3, 2013  Police appeal for witnesses   Confrontation



Just before 8:00pm, the Ridge Meadows RCMP received several 911 calls reporting shots fired in a parking lot located in the 11800-block of 226 St in Maple Ridge.  Claude Deguire, 26,  was located at the scene suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. On March 16, 2013 RCMP received a missing person investigation. The missing female, identified as Rachel Pernosky, 18, was reported missing by her family who knew her last known whereabouts to be her residence in the 7700-block of Kite Street in Mission.  On March 19, 2013 the UFVRD received a call from an individual in the area of the 43400-block of Old Orchard Road in Chilliwack. This individual reported seeing a body down a steep embankment off that road. At approximately 2:00am the Surrey RCMP were conducting proactive patrols in the area of Colebrook Road near 125A St.  While patrolling, a uniformed officer located the body of an unresponsive male on the side of the road.  Additional officers were called to the scene including the Police Dog Service. Shortly before 10:00pm William David Floyd , 47, was involved in an altercation in the 1000-block Main St after being ejected from the Ivanhoe Pub. Police were called and found Floyd unresponsive when they arrived. He was rushed to hospital by paramedics where he was pronounced dead. Shortly after 10pm the Langley RCMP received a call requesting the police attend a residence in the 2000-block of 200 St in Langley to check on the well being of a male who was staying at the residence. The Langley RCMP attended and located Taylor Daniel Johnson, 21, a deceased male and a marihuana grow operation inside the rural residence. At 12:08pm, Surrey RCMP was called after the discovery of a dead body at 125 St & Colebrook Road.  Initial response by the Surrey RCMP uniformed members determined that the found body was likely the victim of a homicide. Friends and family of the young woman recently killed in an apparent hit-and-run feel she was as much a casualty of the health care system as she was victim of any car accident.  Abbotsford's Shaminder Brar, 34, was found by a passing motorist sprawled in a ditch along Riverside Road the morning of Feb. 18.  Police believe she may have been struck anytime from when she was last sighted on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 8pm and early-morning on the day she was discovered.   Feb 16-18, 2013   Death of a mentally ill woman   Hit-and-run victim   Body found



IHIT confirmed the body found in a car near a Surrey elementary school belongs to missing 29-year-old Vimal Chand, and it appears he was murdered.  Officers found the body at around 6:30pm Wednesday and determined the case was a homicide.  The body was discovered by a passerby. At approximately 10:10pm the Delta police responded to a report of a stabbing at a home in the 1700-block of Tsawwassen Drive on the Tsawwassen First Nation Reserve.  A 16-year-old female victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital and the 2nd victim a 15-year-old female is in critical condition.  A 17-year-old boy has been charged.  Police are not releasing the names of the victims in order not to identify the accused.   May 2016 the teen who fatally stabbed his teenage sister and tried to kill his teenage cousin has been declared not criminally responsible due to a mental disorder.   The teen, who can only be identified by the initials J.J.J. due to a publication ban, was initially charged with the second-degree murder of his sister, identified as J.J., and the attempted murder of his cousin, S.B.  DPD file #13-2943  (LM #9)   Feb 15, 2013   Teens stabbed



Shortly after 10:30am 2 men were involved in a fight at Commercial Drive and Venables St. Police were called and when they got there they found Michael Charles Gregory, 59, suffering from serious injuries.  The man was rushed to hospital by paramedics where he died.   Matthew Anthony-Cook, 27, was arrested on April 4, 2013 and charged with manslaughter.   VPD #2   (LM #8)   Feb 9, 2013   Manslaughter charges



An estranged husband has been charged with murder after his wife was found shot to death in her Abbotsford home.  Police were asked by an out-of-town family member to check up on the well-being of Leanne Friesen at her home in the 34800-block of Cassiar Court on Wednesday night.  When they arrived, officers found the 40-year-old woman’s body in the garage with fatal gunshot wounds.  Her husband, Jeffrey Friesen, 40, was arrested on scene and taken into custody. A man killed with a sword in a targeted attack in South Vancouver was Manraj Akalirai, 19, whose family says had no ties to gangs or drugs.  Akalirai was attacked by a large group on Elgin St near East 47th Ave at about 10:30pm.  Several weapons were used in the attack, including bats, clubs and a sword.  Nov 2015 a jury found Amritpal Dhillon, 20, and Amritpaul Rakhra, 18, guilty of manslaughter.   VPD #1   (LM #5)   Jan 23, 2013   Sentenced   2 charged   Victim identified

IHIT confirmed that Manjot Singh Dhillon, 27, was a gangster who died in a targeted shooting.  Dhillon once worked for the late Sukh Dhak in the Surrey drug trade, but more recently was aligned to several different crews.  Dhillon was found critically wounded on the road near 168th St and 76th Ave just before 7pm.  He died in hospital later Sunday.   (LM #1)   Jan 13, 2013
