ADAM HANSON

On New Years Eve at approximately 11:20pm at least one shot rang out in a residence located in the 11200 block of 134th St in Surrey.  Moments later a man was found suffering from a gunshot wound.  Surrey RCMP patrol officers were dispatched to the residence, upon arrival determined that the man suffered a fatal shot and was deceased. PAYTON BOOKER BUCKNER  a.k.a. Dexter Buckner

Just prior to midnight Mission RCMP were called after a man's body was found in a driveway on Laurel Ave. IHIT was brought in to investigate and determined that the man died after an altercation at a nearby house party.  The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Payton Booker Buckner, also known as Dexter Buckner, of Mission.  Buckner is known to police.  Dec. 31, 2008   (LM 2008 #73)     3rd in family to die violently  

VICTIM NOT IDENTIFIED

On Sunday evening the Surrey Fire Department was called to the scene of a burning vehicle in North Surrey.  While extinguishing the fire, a human body was found in the vehicle.  Surrey Detachment of the RCMP attended the scene and took over the investigation.  A lone deceased person was located in the vehicle.  Dec. 28, 2008    File #2008-156391 

BENJAMIN DAVID BANKY

A former employee walked into a staff Christmas party at an east Vancouver health products business Friday and allegedly shot and killed a man.  Police said they were called to Tallgrass Distributors Ltd., at 40 East 5th Ave, where a 61-year-old man carrying a firearm had confronted the crowd.  Police allege Eric Allen Kirkpatrick, 61, opened fire, killing Benjamin David Banky, 40.  Dec. 12, 2008   VPD Homicide #18   (LM 2008 #72)   Fired employee charged   Shooting at Christmas party  

IAN BRUCE RICHARDS

Police blocked off a long stretch of road in rural Pitt Meadows after a body was found in a ditch early Monday.  The man was discovered on the side of the road in a drainage ditch around 10:30am by people who were training dogs in a nearby field.  The male body located in a water filled ditch in the 20100 block of McNeil Road in Pitt Meadows has been identified as Ian Bruce Richards, 23, of Maple Ridge.  IHIT File #2008-9835   (LM 2008 #71)  

VICTIM NOT IDENTIFIED

At 9:35am the Surrey RCMP Detachment received a complaint of a deceased male being found at a recycling business in the 12300 block of 104 Avenue in Surrey. The unidentified male believed to be in his early 40's was discovered by an employee while working inside a building at the business site.  The cardboard itself is delivered to the site by truck from various large recycling containers throughout the City.  The plant supervisor says the drivers always bang on the dumpsters to make sure no one is inside.   In this case, he says the person likely didn't wake up in time before the dumpster was lifted into the truck and crushed.  IHIT File #2008-147487    Dec. 6, 2008   Body found

VAN PHUC ‘Jimmy’ LE

At approximately 10:00pm Surrey RCMP received a report of shots fired in the area of King George Hwy and 100 Avenue. Upon police arrival one deceased male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound was discovered in the drivers side of a vehicle.   The victim is Van Phuc “Jimmy” Le, 26, of Burnaby.  Le is known to police, investigators have not yet established if this was a targeted attack.  Nov. 26, 2008  IHIT  File #2008-9455  (LM 2008 #70)    

LANA MARIE CHRISTOPHERSEN

A woman in her 20s is dead and a man is in critical condition in hospital after an explosion in a fifth-floor apartment in the 3400-block Crowley St Saturday morning.  Jamie Cliff, 34, was arrested in the murder of Lana Marie Christophersen, 26.  Her roommate, Andrew Gawley, 21, died Jan. 29, 2009 from his injuries.  Oct. 25, 2008  VPD Homicide #17   (LM 2008 #69)   25 years   Arrest made        

ORION HUTCHINSON

TODD JOSEPH ‘JOE’ KRANTZ

Shortly after 9:00pm Monday night Abbotsford Police were called to the World Extreme Fighting Gym on Clearbrook Road in response to shots fired.  When police arrived they found the deceased victim in the stairwell suffering from apparent gun shot wounds.  Todd Joseph (Joe) Krantz, 28, a well-known gangster from the Independent Soldiers who ran the extreme fighting club was sprayed with gunfire in the back stairwell.  IHIT File #2008-8351  Oct. 20, 2008   (LM 2008 #68)   

JIMMY GROVER LEE

A man has been shot to death in a targeted shooting in North Surrey.  A man, believed to be in his early thirties, was shot at about 6:15pm on Tuesday night in the 10900-block of Timberland Road in Surrey.  Lee had connections to the Red Scorpions gang that controls the meth and crack trade in that part of Surrey, the friends said.  File #2008-121675   Oct. 7, 2008   (LM 2008 #67)      

ABDU BASIR GHULAM MOHAMMAD

RAKESH RATNAM NAIDU

A brazen afternoon shooting in a busy Vancouver mall parkade has left one man with gang affiliations dead.  Between 10 and 20 shots rang out on the bottom level of Oakridge's underground parking lot just after 2pm. Rakesh Ratnam Naidu, 34, died in a hail of bullets in an underground parkade at Oakridge Mall.   Naidu and his brother have been associated with the Independent Soldiers, but Naidu was not an IS member and was working with an unnamed drug gang when he was slain.   Oct. 2, 2008   VPD Homicide #16   (LM 2008 #65)    

LISA CHERYL DUDLEY & GUTHRIE JOLAN MCKAY

On Monday at approximately 4:45pm Mission RCMP received a call regarding a male and a female in medical distress in a residence at the 31000 block of Greenwood Drive.  The female victim has been identified as Lisa Cheryl Dudley, 37. DENNIS BIRD

In the confusion following a fatal collision between a speeding SUV and a couple crossing the street, the driver parked her car and walked away.  The fatal accident occurred Sunday at 7:20pm when a speeding 2001 Ford Explorer clipped a 29-year-old cyclist before blowing through a red light and slamming into the couple.  A father of four, Dennis Bird, 64, of Vancouver, died in hospital from his injuries. His wife of 39 years, Madeline Bird, remained in hospital last night after surgery for knee and wrist injuries.  Leanne Moorman turned herself in 2 days later, but failed to appear at several court dates.  She finally pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death and injury.  Sept. 21, 2008   4 year wait for sentencing     

MELISSA JOAN CHATHAM

At approximately 10:30am Surrey RCMP were called to an address in 10300 block of 140 Street after BC Ambulance Service received a 911 call regarding a woman down. Upon arrival at the residence paramedics quickly established that the woman was deceased.  During the initial scene examination the officers at scene identified Kelly David McKenzie, 36, as a suspect.  The deceased is Melissa Joan Chatham, 24.   IHIT File #2008-7395   Sept. 21, 2008  (LM 2008 #62)        

JAMES ASHKER

At approximately 4:30am Ridge Meadows RCMP received a call regarding a possible impaired driving incident where a minor collision had occurred in the 11600 block of 207th St.  Upon arrival on scene officers established that the lone male driver was in severe medical distress suffering from an apparent stab wound.  The male was pronounced deceased once at hospital.  At approximately 5:30am Ridge Meadows RCMP received a call regarding a domestic incident that had occurred earlier in the morning at the 205th St and 114 Ave area of Maple Ridge.  Once officers arrived on scene it was determined that the incident on 207 Street and the domestic were linked.   A 17-year-old Maple Ridge female was arrested and remains in custody. WILLENE WAH YING CHONG

Arson was the cause of a fire in southeast Vancouver that claimed the life of an elderly woman early Thursday, police confirmed Friday.  Investigators were looking for a group of young people who were seen in the area around the time of the blaze, at 2781 E 55th Ave. Four other fires were set in the same neighbourhood at about the same time, just after 5am.  Police were treating the death of Willene Wah Ying Chong, 76, as a homicide.   Sept. 11, 2008  VPD Homicide #15  (LM 2008 #60)   Cold Case reward   Rewards offered  

JAMES EDWARD O’TOOLE

MAIJA-LIISA CORBETT & HYESHIM OH

At approximately 6:05pm a mid-sized truck was seen travelling through a mall parking lot at the corner of 203 Street and Lougheed Highway. The truck was seen slamming through a Sushi Restaurant in that shopping centre. The restaurant had several patrons and employees inside at the time of the incident. YAU AARON CHAN

A man was stabbed to death at the Atlantis nightclub on Richards St in downtown Vancouver early Sunday morning.  Police got a call about an assault there just after 2am. GURPREET 'Gerry' SINGH SIDHU

At 10:58pm Surrey RCMP were called to the 12400 Block of 90A Avenue for a report of shots fired.  Two young adult male victims were located, both with gun shot wounds. Both victims were taken to an area hospital.  Gurpreet (Gerry) Singh Sidhu, 21, died in the hospital early Friday morning.  His friend, Opinder Singh Sian is in serious condition.  Police are calling it a targeted shooting.  File #2008-100340   Aug. 21, 2008    (LM 2008 #55)    

MICHAEL BRADLEY GORDON

RICHARD FALARDEAU

IHIT is investigating found human remains located inside a residence in the 14300 block on 88th Ave, Surrey. Police were called to the residence the morning of August 20th at approximately 10:15am. MANJIT KAUR SANDHU

At 4:42pm, the Surrey RCMP were called to a report of shots fired at a residence in the 14300 block of 72nd Ave.  Police immediately cordoned off the area and conducted a preliminary search of the house. Two female victims were located, both with gun shot wounds.  One of the victims was pronounced deceased at the scene, the other taken to an area hospital in serious condition.  The dead woman's husband, Harpaljit "Paul" Sandhu, 53, was taken into custody.  Neighbours identified the shooting victims as Manjit Kaur Sandhu, a woman in her early 40s, and her daughter, Sabrina Sandhu, 22.    File #2008-100318   Aug. 19, 2008  (LM 2008 #52)   

ADRIAN GILPIN

Just after 0300am the Burnaby RCMP received a number of calls reporting shots fired in the 7300 Block of Halifax St in Burnaby.  Members of the Burnaby RCMP did attend to that location and found one male inside an apartment building suffering from gunshots wounds.   Emergency Health Services attended to the scene, however the male was deceased.   File #IHIT 2008-6354   Aug. 16, 2008  (LM 2008 #51)     

VICTOR BERGEN

On Sunday August 10th, 2008 the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment received a telephone call from a male who identified himself as Gerald Guliker.  Mr. Guliker, age 44 of Chilliwack, stated that he was going to travel to Hope BC to commit suicide.  Officers responded and lost sight of the vehicle in the area of Bustin and Ferry Roads as Mr. Guliker drove east on Ferry Road.  Officers came upon a head on collision between Mr. Guliker’ vehicle and a vehicle driving west on Ferry Road.    Mr. Guliker’s vehicle was found to be in the oncoming lane.  Both Mr. Guliker and Victor Bergen,  the driver of the oncoming vehicle, age 40 of Chilliwack, were pronounced dead at the scene.    File #2008-27146   (LM 2008 #50)   Aug. 10, 2008    RCMP partly to blame        

ZACHARY HOBEK

At approximately 2:30am Chilliwack RCMP responded to several 911 calls which were received regarding a possible shooting incident at the 46000 block of Bole Ave, Chilliwack, BC.  Chilliwack RCMP located one deceased male at the scene and two other victims were taken to hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries.  Zachary Hobek, age 17, of Chilliwack died as a result of the injuries he sustained.  Joshua Paul Quinlan turned himself into Chilliwack RCMP two days after the shooting.   1 IHIT File #08-26410   August 5, 2008   (LM 2008 #49)

Abbotsford Police now confirm a teenager accidentally shot by a friend on Saturday night has died in hospital.  The teens were at a home on Brisbane Court & Downes Road when the shot was fired around 10 PM.  A 17-year old boy had been charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm.  APD FILE# 2008-32305  Aug. 1, 2008  

HUNG VAN BUI

Hung Van Bui, 27, was found slumped in the driver's seat of a 2002 silver Nissan Altima in the 600-block East 65th Avenue, near Fraser Street, at around 10:30 PM Monday.  Police arrived to find the car had crashed into a cement wall on the north side of the street and the lone occupant already dead from gunshot wounds, the victim of a targeted shooting.  July 28, 2008   VPD Homicide #12  (LM 2008 #48)      

DUSTIN LEE WESTER

At 5:35 AM the Abbotsford Police Department were called to the commercial complex at 32230 Mt. Lehman Road regarding a man who had been shot. When officers arrived they found the victim in a light-coloured SUV suffering from apparent gun shots. Paramedics did attend but the man died at scene. The deceased is 25-year-old Dustin Lee Wester of Abbotsford.   It has been determined that the shooting occurred in a residence located on a rural property in west Abbotsford.  Upon police arriving on scene a large marihuana grow operation was located inside the residence.  IHIT File #2008-5594    July 22, 2008  (LM 2008 #47)     

THOMAS DALE HOPFNER

On Friday, July 18, 2008 in the early afternoon hours, fifty nine year old Mission resident Thomas Dale Hopfner (known as “Dale”) was the victim of a homicide. The incident occurred in the 33000 block of North Railway Avenue, the downtown core of the city of Mission.   Hopfner suffered substantial head injuries, and passed away in hospital on Saturday, July 19, 2008 as a result.   A warrant has been issued for Shane Charles Buckner, 32, of Mission, who has a criminal history of violence.  File #2008-9711    July 19, 2008   (LM 2008 #46)   

VICTIM NOT IDENTIFIED

A man was killed in Vancouver on Tuesday evening after being struck by a hit and run driver.  A Vancouver police spokeswoman said the badly injured man was found lying semi-conscious at the intersection of Clark Drive & East Broadway at 4:45pm. The 45-year-old victim was taken to hospital but died soon after. The victim's family has chosen not to release his name.   July 15, 2008   

BAKHSHISH KAUR & DILBAG SINGH BADH

At 01:33 AM Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a multi motor vehicle collision in the 8500 block of 128 Street, Surrey, BC.  A red BMW was travelling northbound on 128 Street when it was rear ended by a white Acura TL.  The red BMW subsequently collided with a telephone pole and the white Acura side swiped a northbound black Chevrolet Camaro.  Two passengers from the red BMW, a male and female married couple, were pronounced dead at scene.  Ravinder Singh Binning, 27, is charged with dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, and failure to remain at the scene of an accident.   File #2008-82841   July 12, 2008   4 years   Guilty plea   Hit-and-run

ROBERT MORTON

On Saturday July 5 at approximately 8:50 PM Burnaby RCMP received a call for service to a residence in the 7300 block of Halifax Street.   Upon arrival of police, a male stabbing victim was located, the male was in severe medical distress from the stabbing and was transported to a local area hospital.  The victim, 53-year-old Robert George Morton of Burnaby died in hospital during the early morning hours of July 6, 2008.   The man’s wife, 39-year-old Danielle Alice Morton of Burnaby was arrested and is currently in custody.   IHIT File #2008-5092   July 6, 2008  (LM 2008 #45)   

VAN EM HUYNH

Little is known of the fatal shooting that sent police cruisers screaming to the Lang Nuong Hai Lúa restaurant at 2 AM Saturday.  Police said the shooting took place outside the restaurant after a fight involving about 20 people spilled out into the street.  A gun was drawn and at least one shot was fired.  When officers arrived they found a 25-year-old man lying in the road.  He was rushed to hospital but later died. Dinh Cuong Pham, 28, was alleged to have killed Van Em Huynh after a dispute in a Vietnamese restaurant at Nanaimo and Broadway.   VPD File #08-126193    VPD Homicide #11   July 5, 2008   (LM 2008 #44)    

PAUL HADEN

A 44 year old man was found dead in his suite at 2525 Balsalm Street, believed to have died when he was overcome by fumes from a clandestine lab.  Investigators found approximately one pound of what they believe is ecstasy.  The lab was being used for ongoing production and was not just for personal use.    VPD File #08-105439   June 7, 2008

A 64-year-old Abbotsford woman who was shot May 28 in what police believe was a domestic incident died Saturday morning.  Janice McMath was found shot outside her home at 5077 McMath Street on Bradner Road.  Dec 2013 Robert A. HARMINDER ‘Harvey’ HANS

On Saturday May 24, 2008 at approximately 0225 AM a call was placed into the Abbotsford City Police Department to attend the 31600 block of Ridgeview Drive as a stabbing had just occurred.  Upon arrival police had learned that the victim had been taken to hospital where he died on May 26.  Police have identified the victim as Harminder “Harvey” Hans, 18, of Abbotsford.  This incident occurred between two groups of Indo-Canadian males in their late teens and early twenties.  Investigators have been experiencing a lack of cooperation from a number of those involved and some of their parents.   Shavinder Singh Brar, 21, and Amrit Singh Gill, 20, were charged with second degree murder.  IHIT File #2008-3815   May 26, 2008   (LM 2008 #42)        

BHUPINDER SINGH BENNING

At approximately 0300 AM residents in the 4200 block of Portland Street in south Burnaby were awoken by the sound of gunshots.  Burnaby RCMP were called to the scene to investigate and upon arrival discovered a deceased adult Indo-Canadian male lying on the roadway.  Police have identified the male as Bhupinder Singh Benning, 27, of Richmond.  Benning has just left a friend’s resident when the murder occurred.  Police feel that this incident has all of the indicators of a targeted shooting.  Benning was known to police and police believed he had links to organized crime in the Lower Mainland.  IHIT File #2008-3816   May 24, 2008  (LM 2008 #41) 

CODY GOTTSCHALK

At approximately 11:10 PM Chilliwack RCMP were called to the Sunnyside Campground at Cultus Lake to a disturbance involving two small groups of males. Upon arriving at the scene patrol officers were faced with three victims of an apparent stabbing. One victim was a park employee who was injured while attempting to intervene in the altercation. He was treated at hospital and released. A second person, a twenty-year-old male also a stabbing victim was taken to a Metro Vancouver hospital where he is being treated for serious, non-life-threatening injuries. ALEXA RENEE MIDDELAER

At 5:00 PM the Delta Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision in the 4300 blk of 64th street Ladner.  A vehicle struck Alexa Renee Middelaer, 4, and her aunt, who were feeding horses while her grandparents watched from a nearby car.  Alexa died of her injuries.  Initial indications are that speed and alcohol were contributing factors. Delta resident Carol Berner, who was driving the car that killed 4-year-old Alexa Middelaer, has been found guilty.   May 17, 2008  (LM 2008 #39)    Sting led to conviction   'Bound by 25 years of light sentencing'   Guilty on all charges

JONATHAN ALEX BARBER

At approximately 10:00 PM several shots were fired at a vehicle travelling in the 7000 block of Kingsway in Burnaby. The driver of the vehicle Jonathan Alex Barber, 23, from Langley was killed as a result of the shots fired. DUANE HARVEY MEYER

At 10:40 pm police were called to a residence in the 1400 block of Kipling St. after several reports of shots fired. When police arrived they found a deceased man on the front steps of the home.  The victim is Duane Harvey Meyer, 41, of Mission.  Meyer is known to police and is believed to be a member of the United Nations or UN gang.  Investigators have established that Meyer was visiting a residence in the area at the time of the shooting; he did not live in the area or at the residence.  IHIT File #2008-3386   May 9, 2008  (LM 2008 #37)   Dismantling of UN        

DENIS LAIZER JABLONSKY

A man shot to death in what police called a Wild West-style brawl at a Vancouver strip club has been identified as Denis Laizer Jablonsky, 30, of Richmond.  Jablonsky was a known gang associate, as was a 32-year-old Surrey man who was shot in the leg during the same brawl at the Cecil Hotel.   VPD Homicide #10   May 7, 2008  (LM 2008 #36)

CHARLE DALDE

At approximately 10:10 pm Richmond RCMP were called to the 5500 block of Cooney Road after receiving a 911 call to the area regarding a fight in progress and a “man down”.  The male was taken to Richmond General Hospital where he later died from the injuries he sustained in the altercation.  The victim is Charle Dalde, 24, of Richmond.  Umut Ari was facing second degree murder charges, but after a psychological assessment, the judge ruled he should stay in a psychiatric hospital for treatment.  IHIT File #2008-2759    April 14, 2008  (LM 2008 #33)       

MICHAEL SCULLION

On Thursday April 10th in the early morning hours, Michael Scullion, 30, of Chilliwack, was in an altercation outside the Agassiz Crossroads Hotel located at 5936 Lougheed Highway near Agassiz, BC. MICHAEL ANDREW GIBBON

A major disturbance at Agassiz’s mountain institution over the weekend resulted in the death of one inmate. At approximately 21:45 hours a number of inmates in the gymnasium of the institution started to break windows. The inmates were threatening towards staff members and later assaulted other inmates. HENDRIKJE PRIESTER

On at approximately 0725 AM Abbotsford Police Department received a 911 call regarding a woman found dead in an apartment located in the 33300 block of Mayfair Avenue.  The scene was secured and Daniel Casgrain an adult male that was on scene was arrested and taken into custody.  The victim is Hendrikje Priester, 52, of Abbotsford. An east Vancouver man was found dead in his apartment Monday morning in what police are calling a suspicious death.  Vancouver police Det. HARKINDER 'HANK' HANS

ALFRED 'Fred' WALCOTT

A wounded man bleeding profusely from gunshot wounds pounded on the door of a stranger before dying on the doorstep early yesterday on a quiet street in northeast Coquitlam.   The astonished resident quickly called 911. NHANT TRUONG ‘Joe’ TRAN

RCMP in Surrey and subsequently investigators from the IHIT attended a residence in the area of 90th Ave & 141a St on Friday, March 7th at approximately 11:45 pm after initial reports of shots fired.  Upon attendance, police located a Mercedes SUV parked in the driveway with a male slumped behind the steering wheel in the vehicle.  The lone victim was known to police and while at the initial stages of this investigation, investigators are of the belief that this is a targeted attack. ANTHONY JOHN RYAN

A 23-year-old Vancouver man has been charged with aggravated assault but could face manslaughter charges after his stepfather died following a fight at their apartment. His stepfather fell to the floor unconscious and was rushed to hospital where he was put on life support.  He died just after 5pm Friday. ZDZISLAW (Jim) KUTYLA

At approximately 10:00am Burnaby RCMP received a call regarding a deceased male in a residence at the 8200 block of 19th Ave.  Upon police arrival the death was determined to be suspicious.  The deceased has been identified as 51-year-old Zdzislaw (Jim) Kutyla of Burnaby.    In May of 2011 DNA evidence led them to identify Steven Roy Laxon, 22,  as a suspect and he was charged.   In Sept 2012 Laxon pleaded guilty to 2nd-degree murder.   File #IHIT 2008-1562   Mar. 1, 2008   (LM 2008 #19)     

JUSTIN PETER VASEY

At approximately 6:10pm Surrey RCMP were dispatched to a suspicious activity file at an abandoned house located in the 14200 block of 104 Avenue in Surrey.  When officers arrived at the rear of the house they discovered the body of Justin Peter Vasey, 14.   On June 27, 2008 two females and two males were arrested in various communities throughout the Metro Vancouver area. KHANH PHO MACH

The investigation into the Guildford stabbing death of Khanh Pho Mach, 29, of Surrey that occurred in the early morning hours of Sunday has resulted in the approval of charges. Charged with second degree murder is Nga (Susan) Thi-Thanh Nguyen, 28, of Surrey. Nguyen and the victim were in a relationship together.  During the execution of a search warrant, homicide investigators discovered a marihuana grow-operation.. PATRICK ANTHONY HAMILTON

Patrick Hamilton, 28, was found shot to death in the driveway of a home on the Katzie # 2 First Nations Reserve at 3:15 am Saturday.  Hamilton was discovered by a resident on the reserve who was woken by a barking family dog. EARL STEVE SEYMOUR

A man was shot dead in his minivan in downtown Vancouver in what police say appears to be a targeted hit. KATARYNA SEMENOVA

At approximately 2:30pm, the Burnaby RCMP received a 911 call from the area of MacPherson Ave. and Marine Drive in Burnaby. CHI WAI ‘Darren’ LIAO

At approximately 11:15 pm North Vancouver RCMP received reports of what was thought to be either firecrackers or shots fired in the 600 block of Queens Road West in North Vancouver.  Upon arriving at the parking lot of the Delbrook Recreation Centre located in the 600 block of Queens Road West, patrol officers discovered a deceased Asian male. The male was located in the drivers seat of the vehicle he was in.  The victim has been identified as Chi Wai “Darren” Liso, 32, of Burnaby. PRITPAL SINGH VIRK

A man was found lying in the street last night in the 400 block of East 54th just after 11 pm.  He was rushed to hospital but died of gunshot wounds.  The victim has been identified as Pritpal Singh Virk, 19, of Richmond. Nine days before he was shot and left to die on an East Vancouver street, drug charges against Pritpal Singh Virk were stayed.  Virk, 19, faced charges of producing, possessing and trafficking of a controlled substance along with wilfully resisting arrest after an incident near Vanderhoof last May.  VPD Homicide #4   Feb. 2, 2008  (LM 2008 #12)   Shot by rival gang

TEJVIR SINGH (Sunny) BAINS

On at approximately 9:00 PM Surrey RCMP received a report of “shots fired” in the 12500 block of 72 Avenue. Patrol officers were dispatched and upon arriving on scene officers entered a townhouse and discovered the deceased body of an East Indian male thought to be in his mid-twenties. DEWARD PONTE

Police were called to Grays Park, located near Fraser Street and East 33rd Avenue in east Vancouver, shortly after 2 am on Sunday morning to investigate reports of rowdy teens.   Officers arrived in the area of the park as more calls were received about someone screaming behind a residence on the south side of the 1000-block of East 33rd.  Police hurried to the screams and discovered two young men, ages 15 and 19, that had been stabbed.  Roseller Junior Ramjan Salvacion of Surrey plead guilty to manslaughter in 2010.  VPD Homicide #3    Jan. 27, 2008    (LM 2008 #09)  

MICHAEL ALLEN SING

At approximately 12:30 PM today, a police officer on general patrols was flagged down by the driver of a Jeep Cherokee in the area of 152 Street and 104 Avenue. The driver was seeking assistance for another male who appeared to be suffering from gunshot/(s) wounds. Police cordoned off the area, and traffic was affected for approximately two hours at the busy intersection of 152 and 104. JOHN DAVID PARKER

Coquitlam RCMP received a call from North Fraser Pre-Trial Centre regarding an assault that occurred in a cell at approximately 1030 PM Saturday night.  The victim was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital to be treated for his injuries.  Several hours later the victim, John David Parker, 57, of Vancouver died from injuries sustained in the altercation.  Victor Manuel Hurtado, 22, of Buena Ventura, Colombia, has been charged with the second-degree murder.   RCMP File #IHIT 2008-514   Jan. 19, 2008   (LM 2008 #07)  

RICHARDO FRANCIS SCARPINO & GILLES ANDRE LEPAGE

A black Land Rover pulled up to the curb just south of Gotham's Steakhouse on the 600 block of Seymour Street in downtown Vancouver at around 10:15 pm Saturday night. Moments later, gunfire erupted and two men were dead. SUBALINI 'Subi' RATNANESAN

At approximately 11:30 PM Surrey RCMP were called to a home in at 15480 91A Ave. Once inside the home, police came upon a dramatic scene. GURNAM SINGH JOHAL

Police are treating the mysterious death of a man at Surrey Memorial Hospital as a homicide.  Gurnam Singh Johal, 41, died last week. According to a source who spoke to Surrey radio station RED FM, arsenic was found in Johal's body.  The source said Johal had told hospital staff he wasn't trying to kill himself and hadn't ingested poison.   Jan. 10, 2008    (LM 2008 #02)  

RUO YU 'Lucy' CAO

A woman reported dead in her Richmond townhouse on New Year's Day was murdered, Richmond RCMP said yesterday.  Metro Vancouver's first homicide victim of 2008 was identified as Ruo Yu Cao. The 26-year-old, who used the first name Lucy, was found dead in the Cranberry Court complex at 8088 Spires Gate around midday Jan. 1.    Vancouver resident Xin Fu Zhu, 48, was charged with second-degree murder in April 2010.   Jan. 1, 2008  (LM 2008 #01)   12 years
