TORONTO - A judge made it clear he had no patience for the crimes of a former Toronto jail guard and volunteer soccer coach who implored a woman to sexually abuse her grandchildren in front of a webcam. "Cases involving the use of the Internet as a means of finding, collecting and disseminating child pornography appear in our courts with depressing regularity," Ontario Superior Court Justice David McCombs said before handing Matthew Hughes a 15-month sentence for the possession and distribution of child pornography, charges to which he pleaded guilty in March. TURNER VALLEY - A host of child pornography-related charges have been laid against an employee at a school on a native reserve south of Calgary. Turner Valley RCMP launched an investigation on June 13, after "questionable" photos were found near a printer, at Eden Valley School. PARIS - Police detained a suspected pedophile in New Jersey Thursday, just two days after Interpol made a rare appeal for public help in the international manhunt to catch him, the police agency said. Wayne Nelson Corliss, 58, was detained in Union City, N.J., Interpol said. He is suspected of sexually abusing at least three boys from Southeast Asia thought to have been as young as 6 to 10 years old, the international police agency said. VANCOUVER - A former BC lawyer with a long history of involvement with children's groups has pleaded guilty to six sexual offences against kids dating back to the 1970s. Gordon Hazlewood, 73, of Abbotsford, pleaded guilty in North Vancouver Provincial Court to four charges of gross indecency and two charges of indecent assault against boys, who were all under 14 at the time of the offences. 8 years for torturing 4-year-old EDMONTON - An Edmonton man was sentenced to eight years in prison for the torture and sexual assault of his girlfriend's four-year-old daughter. Darcy Don Bannert, 26, was convicted earlier this year of sexually assaulting the girl, shackling her to furniture for his own amusement and unlawfully confining her in a dark basement, among other things.
