CALGARY - On Sunday, June 29, 2008, police responded to a complaint in the 11400-block of Braniff Road SW.  The body of Daniel Jacob Levesque, 29, of Calgary was found inside.  Derek Campeau, 25, Aaron Lee Stevens, 25, and Sheldon Bertrum Worme, 24, all from Calgary are charged with first-degree murder.   (CTV)

WINNIPEG - A 66-year-old man was killed in a hit and run on Christmas Eve.  Police say the man - Reginald Blackbird - was hit at about 5:40pm, on Fife Street between Inkster Boulevard and Maple Glen Drive.   Police arrested Christopher Ronald Teebles, 44, on Christmas Day and charged him with criminal negligence causing death and failing to remain at the scene of collision causing death.   (CTV)

Wife jailed

LONDON, Ont. - It took about 25 blows from a baseball bat to kill Christy Hands, a violent, mean man who smoked a pack of cigarettes and drank a case of beer a day and was addicted to crystal meth.  Sandra Hands, 52, with him for six years and married for four, had been on the receiving end of her husband's violent rages many times, but never told the police.   (QMI)

Man still missing

EDMONTON - A hunt to find 1 of 2 men who disappeared 2 days before a bizarre blaze where investigators found a man's charred remains in a rural Strathcona County garage continues. Brent Abbott, a 36-year-old from Saskatoon disappeared Dec. 17, 2 days before the fire.  The other missing person, Dino Kaz, 42, was found dead Dec. 29 along a rural road near Evansburg.   (QMI)

Homicide clearance rate up

EDMONTON - Police in 2010 solved the highest proportion of homicides in years, but arrested more of the city's youth in the process.  There were 27 homicides in Edmonton over the year and police solved 22 of them, for a clearance rate of 81%.  In 2009, investigators solved 66%, and in 2008, it was 31%.  (Edmonton Journal)

Woman charged

THREE HILLS - RCMP have charged 44-year-old Deanna Amthor with impaired driving charges after she and her partner were returning from a Christmas party. Both were allegedly drunk and the man was in the box of their truck when he fell out.  He hit his head on the road and was pronounced dead at the scene.

PELICAN NARROWS - Jean Ballantyne was killed during a Christmas celebration that turned violent in the family home in 2010.  Riley Ballantyne, who was 20 at the time, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for fatally stabbing his grandmother.  (CTV)  PREVIOUS:   Suspect charged

Daycare operator charged

Man charged

POND INLET - A 31-year-old man in Pond Inlet, Nunavut, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his wife early Thursday morning.  Kenneth Arreak has been taken into custody.   RCMP said Arreak's spouse, also 31, was found unresponsive in a Pond Inlet home around 2:30am Thursday.  (CBC)

Guilty plea

EDMONTON - In December 2010, two boys aged 3 and 6-years-old were found dead inside a home in Abbottsfield with their father Jason Bruce Cardinal.  The two boys were found dead beside their father on his bed - Cardinal was suffering from self-inflicted wounds.  Cardinal, 33, was charged with two counts of first degree murder in their deaths.  (CTV)  PREVIOUS:  Ministry grants permission   Father charged   2 boys found dead

Shooting deliberate

VANCOUVER - David Lawrence Robert Langlet was charged in October 2010 with first-degree murder in connection with Preece's death on June 12, 2000.  The case went cold until Matthew Anthony DaSilva went to police and confessed his involvement in the crime.  In December 2010 DaSilva pleaded guilty to being an accessory to murder after the fact and was sentenced to two years in prison.  (Vancouver Province)

Body ID'd

KINGSVILLE - Police have identified human remains found in a minivan that was burning in a farmer's field in Kingsville, ON, on Dec. 2.  The OPP said that they had identified the dead man as Thomas Whittaker, 86, of Kingsville.  (CBC)

Drunk driver sentenced

OTTAWA - Ontario Court Justice Célynne Dorval condemned Samira Daoud’s actions the day she struck and killed Alex Hayes.  Hayes’s body was thrown more than 39 metres into a ditch; Daoud - whose blood-alcohol level was later measured at three times the legal limit - kept driving.  PREVIOUS:  Guilty plea   Manslaughter charge

Stabbing arrest

MONTREAL - Just before midnight on Oct. 25, police allege Fernando Ramos Eveillard, 22, and an 18-year-old man got into argument over drugs as they stood next to a bus shelter on Saint-Michel Blvd.  Police allege Eveillard pulled out a knife and stabbed the other man in the upper body before fleeing the scene.  (CBC)

WINDSOR - Police said at a news conference they have new forensic information in the case of Russell Floyd (Rocky) Cook whose body was found in a ditch with a bullet wound in his chest near Tecumseh, Ont., on Dec. 23, 1977.   (CBC)

OTTAWA - An Ottawa man found not criminally responsible for the stabbing deaths of his parents and sister 5 years ago was apprehended by police after he walked around his street naked and then locked himself in his home.  Daniel Maxheleau, a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic, was arrested March 13, 2005, after the deaths of his parents, Gerald and Louise, and sister, Michelle.

LONDON, ON - A prisoner already serving a life sentence for two Durham Region murders was charged with the 1992 slaying of Lawrence Kitakijick.  Advances in DNA technology linked Roshan Norouzali, 47, to the Kitakijick murder.  At the time of his arrest for Kitakijick’s murder, Norouzali was in Collins Bay Penitentiary serving a life term for the first-degree murders of Pickering carpenter Kenneth Thomas and Oshawa gunshop owner Roger Pardy in 1994.  (Toronto Star)

EDMONTON - I can't tell you the name of the dead child or of man who killed him.  The province has passed the draconian Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act. That bans us from identifying the slain child and his killer.  In theory, that's to protect the privacy of the dead baby.

Fatal fire treated as homicide

PETERBOROUGH - Police collared Etienne Beaulieu, 21, after a massive manhunt that included a police helicopter and heat sensors. Men charged in fatal rollovers

YUKON - William Gilbert Johnson, 46, has been charged with impaired driving causing death and other charges in connection with the rollover that occurred on Chadburn Lake Road in Whitehorse.  Alex Dickson, 40, of Teslin, Yukon, was declared dead at the scene.  Valentino Vella, 27, of Vancouver was killed when the van he was a passenger in rolled over on the North Klondike Highway.  Christopher John Maxwell-Smith, 25, was charged with impaired driving causing death.  (CBC)
