HALIFAX - RCMP have released the name of the man shot to death in North Preston on Sunday.  Nathan Cross, 22, was wearing body armor at the time of Sunday's shooting.  Cross died in an ambulance on the way to hospital.   (CBC)

LAC LA BICHE - The man who died in a fatal stabbing in Lac La Biche has been identified as 28-year-old Jason Ward.  RCMP were called Sunday morning to a rural home south of Lac La Biche where they found a man with stab wounds along with four other people.  (CBC)

VANCOUVER - A man accused in a 10-year-old murder in which the victim’s head was severed and carried around in a plastic bucket is being re-tried in BC Supreme Court in Vancouver.  The Crown’s theory is that Mihaly Illes shot Javan Dowling, 27, in the back of the head inside a van being driven by a third man, Derrick Madinsky.

STE-FLORENCE - The body of Jonathan Beauchemin’s grandfather, Gérald Allard, 68, was found first - apparently beaten to death with a blunt object.  Beauchemin’s body was found in the grandparents’ apartment with fatal, self-inflicted gunshot wounds. CALEDON - The remains of Van Sanh Tieu, 53, of Dundalk, were found inside the home, which was destroyed in a blaze. VICTORIA - A 41-year-old Victoria man died in hospital from injuries suffered in a violent assault last week.  Jason Robert Van Winkle, 34, of the West Shore, is charged with aggravated assault and is facing more serious charges in relation to the homicide.  The victim was Gilles Alain Thibodeau.

SALMON ARM - James Douglas Phillips had been hospitalized since RCMP responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at the residence of Louise Phillips on Feb. 18.  Louise Phillips was found dead from stab wounds.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - Canadian citizen Dmytro Aref Yev pleaded guilty to second degree murder and was given the 10-year prison term Monday night after he admitted he attacked Jordan Morrison outside a resort nightclub near Punta Cana on Feb. 4, 2011. His co-accused, Algerian national Bouzid Redha, was acquitted of second degree murder after Aref Yev said he acted alone.  (CBC)

Toronto's 54th homicide victim of 2010 has been identified as 24-year-old Melvin Gomez of Toronto.  Around 3am, officers were called to a reported shooting outside Col. Stabbing arrest

MONTREAL - Just before midnight on Oct. 25, police allege Fernando Ramos Eveillard, 22, and an 18-year-old man got into argument over drugs as they stood next to a bus shelter on Saint-Michel Blvd.  Police allege Eveillard pulled out a knife and stabbed the other man in the upper body before fleeing the scene.  (CBC)
