CLARESHOLM - The shooting on a  Alberta highway north of Claresholm, Alta., around 3:30am claimed the lives of 4 people and left a fifth person in hospital.  Among the dead were Tanner Craswell, 22, and Mitch MacLean, 20, and Tabitha Stepple of Lethbridge, Alta.  The shooter was found dead at the scene at after turning the gun on himself.  (CBC)  MORE:  Victims identified    4 dead

TORONTO - Jamahl Franklin, 20, died after he was shot several times around 4:30am on Sunday.  Emergency crews found him at 101 Hupfield Trail and pronounced him dead at the scene. TORONTO - Paul Hindle has been sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole for 14 years for the murder of his girlfriend Lisa Lebitka.  Hindle was charged with second-degree murder in January of last year for the murder of Lebitka, 45. He pleaded guilty last year.  Hindle strangled Lebitka back in 2011, just 3 days after Christmas.  (CBC)

ANTIGONISH - Police say William Fogarty, 30, has been charged with 2 counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.  The driver of one vehicle, Kory Mattie, 16, was pronounced dead at the scene.  A passenger in the same vehicle, Nicholas Landry, 17, later died from injuries sustained in the crash.  (CTV)

KELOWNA - A jury in Kelowna, BC, has found Matthew Foerster guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Taylor Van Diest.  Foerster, 28, admitted responsibility for causing the injuries that killed Van Diest, but pleaded not guilty to the charge of first-degree murder.  The 18-year-old girl was found beaten with fatal head wounds by the side of railroad tracks, hours after going missing on Halloween night in 2011.  (CBC)

CALGARY - Meredith Borowiec, the woman who left 3 of her newborns in a garbage dumpster, has been given 18 more months in jail and faces 3 years of probation.  The 32-year-old gave birth in 2008 and 2009, but the babies' bodies have never been found. A third child born in 2010 survived when the baby's father unknowingly helped pull the infant out of a neighbourhood trash bin after a passerby heard cries.  (CBC)

IQALUIT - An 18-year-old in Nunavut convicted of murder has received the most serious youth sentencing option available under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.  Justice Sue Cooper granted an Intensive Rehabilitative Custody and Supervision order for the teen, who pleaded guilty in September to shooting 27-year old Lucassie Emikotailuk inside the victim’s home in Sanikiluaq last year.  (CBC)

EDMONTON - A local man who caused the car crash that killed his young son - and who abandoned his badly injured family at the scene - has been sentenced to 30 months in prison.  Shawn Michael Free, 30, was sentenced for dangerous driving causing death and failing to remain at the scene of an accident and offer assistance.  (QMI)
